Theintegration of satellite communication systems with terrestrial networks, such as local 5G, is increas
ingly recognized as essential for achieving extensive and highly reliable communication infrastructures. However,
dynamic and harsh environments, including the significant latency fluctuations and frequent link disruptions ex
perienced with Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites and millimeter-wave (mmWave) communications, often degrade
performance under conventional transport-layer-only controls. Addressing these challenges requires new cross-layer
control strategies that enable coordinated, adaptive responses across multiple network layers. In this talk, we
present the latest research on intelligent control techniques involving precise detection and prediction of satellite
link conditions to dynamically adjust congestion windows and transmission scheduling through cross-layer optimiza
tion. These approaches significantly enhance end-to-end throughput and stability even under the periodic latency
variations inherent in LEO satellite communications and intermittent connectivity characteristic of mmWave com
munications. Additionally, we discuss seamless integration strategies between satellite and local 5G networks aimed
at improving Quality of Service (QoS) across an end-to-end architecture encompassing devices through cloud re
sources. The talk concludes by highlighting future perspectives enabled by these adaptive control technologies in
integrated satellite-terrestrial communication systems. |
