Metropolitan Expressway faces harsh operating conditions, including aging infrastructure and frequent daily traffic anomalies. Additionally, rapid road clearance is essential during major disasters like a Tokyo Inland Earthquake. To address these challenges, securing a stable, high-capacity communication infrastructure for both ordinary times and emergencies is an urgent task.
Metropolitan Expressway has conducted various trials for the introduction of Local 5G. Through these efforts, we have overcome technical challenges unique to urban expressways, such as establishing linear communication areas along roads, suppressing radio wave leakage outside the road, and avoiding radio interference with numerous adjacent operators. Based on these achievements, preliminary deployment of Local 5G has begun on some routes.
This presentation will demonstrate how the introduction of Local 5G contributes to solving the various challenges faced by Metropolitan Expressway. It will also show how promoting DX in expressways through the adoption of wireless IoT devices and advanced technology development will contribute to sustainable maintenance and the realization of a future mobility society. |
