Evaluation of ML-Assisted Interference-Aware Analog Beam Selection Methods in Millimeter-Wave V2X Communications

(in English) This paper proposes an analog beam selection method based on a deep Q-network (DQN) to mitigate inter-beam interference in millimeter-wave (mmWave) networks. Unlike conventional user equipment (UE) scheduling based on proportional fair (PF) conducted independently at each transmit and receive point, the proposed method jointly selects both the UEs to be served and the corresponding analog beams. To reduce signaling overhead on the fronthaul link, the proposed method utilizes only partial reference signal received power feedback of selected beams, assuming practical system deployment. By employing DQN at a centralized processing unit, UE scheduling is performed in a way that mitigates inter-beam interference while maintaining fairness among UEs based on the system state. Simulation results in a vehicle-to-everything communication scenario, which is a representative application of mmWave systems, demonstrate that the proposed method improves spectral efficiency compared to conventional PF-based UE scheduling.
