Cooperative Loss Recovery for Geo-Distributed Databases

(in English) Geo-distributed database systems achieve load balancing and high availability by replicating data across geographically distributed nodes. To ensure the consistency of data replicated at each node, all nodes must execute transactions in the order determined by a master node. However, when packet loss occurs during the transmission of transaction execution logs from the master node to each node, transmission delay increases, thereby degrading overall system performance. This paper proposes a cooperative loss recovery mechanism in which multiple nodes collaborate to recover lost packets in lossy network environments. In addition, we introduce a ring buffer design that enables efficient utilization of send and receive buffers. We implemented the proposed method in the C++ language and evaluated in a virtual testbed with varying network latency and packet loss, demonstrating improvements in overall system performance.
