Secure Authentication Protocol in Multi-Swarm UAV Networks

(in English) As Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) swarms evolve toward large-scale, multi-swarm deployments, securing inter-cluster communication becomes a critical challenge. Traditional cryptographic protocols often fail to meet the performance and scalability requirements of resource-constrained, dynamically structured UAV networks. This report proposes a lightweight, scalable authentication protocol designed specifically for multi-swarm UAV environments, where nodes can frequently join, leave, or migrate between swarms. The new protocol offers a Ground Control Station (GCS) centralized role-awareness method that ensures mutual authentication between UAV and UAVs/GCS, while minimizing overhead on UAV nodes. Formal and informal security properties were verified under the Dolev-Yao model. The protocol was implemented in a simulation environment, and a comparative evaluation against existing methods was conducted. Evaluation results show that the protocol achieves strong security guarantees with significantly reduced computation, communication, and storage costs.
