Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) While the fusion of computer vision (CV) and computer graphics (CG) technology has begun to be used in forensic video analysis, existing 3D analysis methods are unable to adequately address problems caused by time differences within a single frame in analyzing 3D information of a fast moving object captured by a rolling shutter camera with strong lens distortion, such as dashcam cameras. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to systematically estimate the 3D pose and velocity of a camera or a captured object moving at high speeds of over tens of kilometers per hour in realistic video frames that contain both lens distortion and rolling shutter effects. Specifically, in contrast to the conventional PnP method, which analyzes the camera pose by using 2D-3D point correspondences obtained from an image and a 3D model of the captured object mainly based on a perspective projection model, this paper adopts a camera model that also takes lens distortion and rolling shutter into account, and proposes an algorithm to estimate the 3D position, orientation, and velocity of the high-speed moving object relative to camera, which optimizes information from multiple frames based on the minimization criterion of both the reprojection error and speed difference. The proposed method makes it possible to reproduce images using CG from video information recorded by a dashboard camera, etc., thereby making it possible to estimate in a well-posed manner the three-dimensional position, orientation, and velocity of a fast-moving camera or a captured object.
