Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Human-sensing radar performance is typically evaluated via over-the-air (OTA) testing by irradiating radio waves onto actual humans and analyzing their responses. However, such testing requires significant human resources and suffers from the non-reproducibility of biological activities, making fair benchmarking difficult. To address these challenges, we have proposed a reconfigurable electronic phantom (RePH) as a substitute for human subjects in radar testing systems. We demonstrated that RePH can accurately reconstruct time-varying radar channels of target objects under specified radar parameters. Furthermore, by reconstructing radar channels over a wide area encompassing the radar's expected operational region, we confirmed that the spatiotemporal scattering characteristics of the target can be faithfully reproduced. In this paper, we evaluate the fidelity of the reconstructed scattering characteristics using two key performance metrics for human-sensing radar: (i) direction-of-arrival estimation accuracy and (ii) the phase response of micro-Doppler signals. Numerical analysis reveals that radar performance using the reconstructed channels is equivalent to that using actual target channels. These findings suggest that RePH can serve as a viable alternative to human subjects, enabling equivalent testing without the need for live participants.
