Health Condition Assessment Using a Plantar Color and Shape Acquisition Mat

(in English) In this report we present a novel health-status monitoring technology designed to extend healthy life expectancy and, in turn, curb long-term medical and nursing-care expenditures. The proposed system employs an array of sensors embedded in a floor mat to acquire, in a single step, both the plantar HSV (hue–saturation–value) color distribution and key morphological parameters (e.g., foot length and width). These multimodal data serve as inputs to a neuro-fuzzy inference model that estimates each individual’s healthy life expectancy. When a user specifies a desired extension in healthy life years, the model can inversely derive the corresponding target body-mass index (BMI) and activity level, thereby providing concrete lifestyle-improvement guidelines. In addition, the system incorporates an algorithm capable of inferring sex and age solely from plantar information, obviating the need for manual entry of demographic attributes. Because the measurement requires only that a person stand barefoot on the mat, the method is completely non-invasive and exceptionally simple to use, making it a promising candidate for practical, everyday health management.
