Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) With the decline of the working population and the growing labor shortage, demand is rising for more efficient monitoring and inspection with less manpower. As one solution, surveillance systems using autonomous mobile robots have gained attention, with demonstration experiments and deployment trials conducted by companies and municipalities. However, in indoor environments, monitoring data acquired by robots must be transmitted wirelessly, and communication quality is affected by distance, making it difficult to ensure real-time performance and stability.
This study aims to build an efficient and reliable system for indoor robot operation by evaluating the communication characteristics of autonomous mobile robots. Specifically, three wireless LAN standards in the 920 MHz, 2.4 GHz, and 5 GHz bands were tested. Throughput and RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) were measured along patrol routes, revealing quality variations across frequency bands. Based on these data, we examined an autonomous wireless interface switching method that adapts to the environment and selects the optimal frequency band, enabling stable data transmission including video streaming. Results showed that the proposed method achieves more efficient and stable data transfer compared with using a single wireless LAN standard.
