This study proposes a hybrid metaheuristic method based on chaotic dynamics for solving the capacitated vehicle routing problem. The conventional chaotic search method employs a chaotic neural network (CNN) to control execution of local search methods (e.g. 2-opt, CROSS-Exchange). However, it has a limitation to diversify the search space. To overcome this issue, we introduce a destroy-and-repair strategy and integrate both the local search and the destroy-and-repair strategies into the CNN, resulting in the proposed new chaotic search approach. Numerical experiments using Set A of the CVRPLIB benchmark are conducted, comparing the proposed method with the existing methods. The results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves significantly lower gap rates than the conventional methods, particularly on medium-scale instances, validating the effectiveness of dynamically switching between local search and destroy-and-repair operations. |
