A Study on Uncertainty-Aware Track Reconstruction in Particle Tracking Using Gaussian Process Regression

(in English) In particle tracking, occlusion often leads to fragmentation of observed tracks, which degrades the accuracy of long-term dynamic analysis.
This study proposes a temporal completion and reconstruction method for fragmented particle tracks, based on a probabilistic velocity field modeled using Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), with explicit consideration of uncertainty.
In the proposed method, particle motion is interpolated both spatially and temporally using GPR, and the uncertainty of the predicted velocity is used to dynamically adjust the search range for track reconstruction. This approach suppresses incorrect linkages while enabling flexible reconstruction in regions with limited observational information.
Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves stable extension of average track lengths and improves the identification accuracy of particle appearance and disappearance events.
