Measurement and Analysis of Respiratory Dynamics for the Development of a Sleep Stage Classification Model

(in English) In this study, we investigated the effectiveness of non-invasive respiratory monitoring using a wrist-worn six-axis sensor. Daytime nap experiments were conducted with nine subjects. Continuous wavelet analysis was applied to the acceleration and angular velocity signals to visualize respiratory signals. A classification model was constructed using deep learning with these generated images as input. The constructed model successfully identified, with high accuracy, the sensor axes capable of recording respiratory signals consistent with the reference signal obtained from abdominal respiratory movements. On the other hand, it was revealed that there were significantly more periods during wakefulness when respiratory movements could not be recorded than during sleep. These findings not only demonstrate the practical potential of respiratory monitoring using wrist-worn sensors but also suggest that improving detection sensitivity during wakefulness remains an important issue for future work.
