In recent years, underwater wireless communication technology, which is essential for the operation of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) for deep-sea resource development, has attracted attention. Underwater optical wireless communication using blue-green wavelengths (400–550 nm) is particularly promising due to its low attenuation characteristics and device availability. In this paper, we describe a highly efficient underwater optical wireless PHY specification based on HC-OFDM, which achieves average data rates of over 5 Gbps. We also report on the results of laboratory experiments using an underwater optical wireless communication experimental setup and a small water tank to demonstrate the performance of this PHY specification. |
