[Invited Lecture] Color Shift Keying Using Multiple Wavelengths for Shallow-Water Simultaneous Lightwave Information and Power Transfer

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In recent years, the underwater simultaneous lightwave information and power transfer (USLIPT) system has gained attention as a promising technology for underwater sensors and drones. In clear water, USLIPT using blue or green laser diodes (LDs) is often studied due to their low attenuation. However, the optimal wavelength can vary with the spectral sensitivity of the solar panel and the wavelength dependence of solar noise. This study focuses on shallow water, where solar noise is dominant, and investigates the effectiveness of single- and multi-wavelength transmission. For multi-wavelength transmission, color shift keying (CSK) is employed, with propagation characteristics derived from Monte Carlo photon simulations, and the communication-to-power transfer ratio optimized via power splitting. Results show that at a depth of 20m, transmission distance of 10m, chlorophyll concentration of $2.0 mathrm{mg/m^3}$, and at 13:00 when solar noise is strongest, CSK with RGB-LDs reduces the required signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) by about 2dB compared with red-green LDs to achieve a bit error rate of $10^{-3}$, thereby increasing harvested power. In contrast, single-color pulse amplitude modulation fails to meet communication constraints under solar noise, causing interruptions in power transfer.
