In existing blockchains, the contents of transactions (hereinafter referred to as Tx) are disclosed in cleartext before their reflection on the ledger is finalized. For this reason, nodes that propose blocks can refer to those contents and perform actions such as inserting or excluding fraudulent Txs to gain unfair profits, which has become a major problem known as fraudulent maximal extractable value (MEV). In existing countermeasures such as PBS and Shutter Network, problems have been pointed out, including insufficient protection for transaction originators and the dependence of transaction execution reliability on specific nodes. This paper proposes a method that resolves all of these problems through a simple mechanism. Specifically, by using newly defined reservation transactions (Re-Tx), the order in which transactions are executed is determined in advance, and subsequently, the Tx (RE-Tx) containing the transaction contents is disclosed in cleartext to prevent insertion attacks. If a block-proposing node intentionally excludes the corresponding RE-Tx from a block, the proposed method prevents unfair exclusion by allowing the rescue of the RE-Tx during the voting process for block approval. The proposed method minimizes the increase in node computational load and message data volume, and can prevent fraudulent MEVs without degrading the performance or consensus security of the blockchain. Quantitative evaluation results of these characteristics are also presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. |
