Imbalance difference is the key parameter to causes mode conversion on the transmission line. For investigating mode conversion in four-conductor systems, a co-analysis approach integrating a secondary common-mode three-dimensional full-wave model design and a modal-equivalent circuit has been developed. This approach extends the conventional modal-equivalent-circuit method by coupling the imbalance difference and current division factors extracted from HFSS. The co-analysis enables direct evaluation of mode conversion caused by pigtail termination imbalance in shielded twisted-pair (STP) cables. Mixed-mode S-parameters corresponding to normal mode, primary-common mode, and secondary-common mode are analysed under both balanced and unbalanced conditions. As a result, the proposed method clarifies that mode conversion strongly depends on termination imbalance, and it effectively reproduces the electromagnetic behaviour of pigtail-terminated STP systems. |
