Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This study evaluates the impact of relay node placement and configuration on communication performance in an IoT mesh network using IEEE 802.11ah (Wi-Fi HaLow™) under real-world conditions. Measurements conducted in both indoor and outdoor environments confirmed that the use of relay nodes reduces throughput to approximately half due to the half-duplex communication, compared to direct communication between an access point and a client node without relay nodes. Furthermore, a comparison between configurations using two and three relay nodes revealed that the IEEE 802.11ah standard’s target of achieving at least 100 kbps is nearly met with two-node configurations, whereas three-node configurations fall below this threshold at longer distances. This study discusses practical communication ranges when relay nodes are employed and outlines future challenges. Additionally, insights gained from evaluating the feasibility of video transmission, which requires a throughput of at least 200kbps over extended distances, are presented.
