In performance assessment, a common source of bias is the halo effect, whereby a rater's evaluations of an examinee tend to become overly similar across multiple assessment items. In recent years, item response theory models have been proposed that detect this phenomenon and estimate examinees' abilities while accounting for its influence. Previous studies have distinguished between halo effects originating from the examinee and those from the rater, and have introduced models capable of considering each source separately. However, in practical evaluation settings, these two factors are likely to coexist. Furthermore, conventional approaches often represent whether each examinee or rater induces halo effects as a binary variable, even though such distinctions may not always be clearly divided into two. To address these limitations, this study proposes a novel item response model that simultaneously incorporates halo effects originating from both examinees and raters, while also representing the degree to which they induce such effects in a continuum. |
