With the increasing speed and density of inter-server networks in data centers, ensuring the reliability of inter-switch links is crucial, as link failures directly affect system availability, and increasingly complex configurations demand more precise reliability assessments. Recently, Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) technology—where ASIC and optical components areintegrated into a single package—has gained attention as a means to reduce the power consumption of network switches by shortening electrical interconnects between the ASIC and the optical interface and minimizing the need for signal conditioning
circuits. However, the unique internal structure of CPO also necessitates new approaches to reliability evaluation. This paper proposes a reliability model derived from the internal structure of CPO and adapted for evaluating inter-switch links and introduces a simplified method to facilitate evaluation. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the proposed model is assessed by comparing it with a conventional model that does not reflect internal structure, and the results of this comparison are reported. |
