A Proposal of an Information Sharing System to Support Farmers' Markets

(in English) Information sharing via social medias from farmers’ markets is one of the important methods to provide consumers with information on agricultural products. However, the tasks of posting, such as photographing newly arrived vegetables and writing posts, place a significant time burden on employees working at farmers’ markets. Consequently, the frequency and quality of information sharing tend to be inconsistent. This study proposes a system to reduce the employees’ workload and support continuous and high-quality information sharing. This system consists of two subsystems: a photography system for farmers to photograph their own harvested agricultural products, and a message generation system which supports the employees in creating social media posts. The photography system uses a camera application which we developed for a tablet computer. Even elder farmers can operate this camera application intuitively. On the message generation system, the employees select newly arrived products on any given day to generate social media posts either semi-automatically or fully automatically. In this paper, we report the results of surveys conducted at farmers’ markets, and then explain the design of this system and the considerations and future prospects gained from the experiment.
