Considerations on the Impedance Transformation Characteristics of λ/4 Transmission Lines and Their π-Type Equivalent Circuits

(in English) Quarter-wavelength (λ/4) transmission lines are widely used in RF circuits such as Wilkinson couplers/dividers, RF switches, and impedance converters in Doherty power amplifiers. When applied to integrated circuits, however, λ/4 transmission lines become relatively long compared to other components, and are therefore often replaced by π-type equivalent circuits such as LCL networks. While such equivalent circuits can satisfy the same characteristics as λ/4 transmission lines at the design center frequency, their behavior deviates at other frequencies. In this work, both single-stage and multi-stage π-type equivalent circuits are investigated, and their characteristic differences from λ/4 transmission lines are examined.
