Fast-Switching Phase Shifter Using Digital Quadrature Splitter for Continuous Beamforming

(in English) The use of phased array antennas is being considered to extend propagation distances for Beyond 5G/6G. Furthermore, research is advancing on high-functionality features such as continuous beamforming. This paper proposes a high-speed switchable phase shifter using a digital quadrature splitter. By employing a digital quadrature splitter, the circuit configuration reduces the power consumption while maintaining high-speed phase switching. Operation was verified using a 5-GHz continuous wave, confirming 360° phase shifting capability without requiring digital calibration. The control characteristics exhibit high linearity, achieving the RMS phase error of 7.6°, and a phase switching time of only 100ns.
