Energy Detection Based Noncoherent SIMO Systems

(in English) The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is a system that interconnects advanced devices and autonomous machines to enhance productivity and efficiency. It is expected to be applied in various fields such as manufacturing, supply chain management, transportation, healthcare, and energy management.
Recently, the application of noncoherent massive single-input multiple-output (SIMO) systems based on energy detection has been investigated for IIoT communications. These systems have the advantage of not requiring instantaneous channel state information (CSI). However, since they rely on statistical channel information, their performance may degrade in environments where channel statistics vary dynamically.
In this study, we propose a noncoherent SIMO communication scheme employing energy detection that does not require statistical CSI. The average bit error rate is analytically derived, and its performance is compared with differential BPSK to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method in rapidly varying channel conditions. Furthermore, we evaluate its effectiveness in massive SIMO configurations with up to 500 receive antennas.
