High-fidelity modeling of atmospheric refractivity, strongly affected by weather condition, is a prerequisite for ensuring high continuous connectivity during frequent hand over for LEO satellite communications. We assess the practical utility of a numerical weather prediction (NWP) model. Specifically, for South Korean territory, we compared vertical profiles of atmospheric refractivity retrieved from an NWP data with those derived from observations and showed that hydrometeors can modulate refractivity. The results suggest that augmenting measurement-based interpolation with numerical data is likely to improve meteorologically consistency and has the potential reduce boresight error, indicating a benefit for seamless connectivity. |
