In the previous study, the hazardous event rate (HER), PFH, and PFDavg for the Category 2 architecture provided by ISO 13849-1, where the test and the functional channels are mutually independent, were formulated based on IEC 61508. In this paper, the differences in the functional safety assessment between ISO 13849-1 and IEC 61508 are studied, and the HER, PFH and PFDavg are formulated for such architectures as designed in actual machinery, including those having shared common parts between the functional and test channels. These formulations are available for the protection layers, regardless of the presence or absence of shared common parts, or multiple operating modes. Consequently, this study proposes an approach to overcome the issues existing standards by which proper quantitative evaluation is difficult, namely, such issues as the exclusion of low demand mode operation from the scope of ISO 13849-1 and the absence of specifically presented evaluation methods for multiple protection layers with shared common parts in the current IEC 61508. |
