As the use cases of radio communication become more diverse, there is a growing demand for highly reliable communications that supports precise operations such as collaborative robot. Therefore, to enhance the gain in scenarios where a single link suffers from significant propagation loss and to improve reliability through redundancy in the number of links, coherent joint transmission (CJT)—a technique in which multiple distributed units (DUs) cooperatively perform transmission—has attracted considerable attention. Specifications related to CJT in mobile radio communications have also been standardized in 3GPP. Achievable gain in CJT is fundamentally limited by the number of DUs; however, the loss from this the upper bound on the gain is influenced not only by the estimation errors of the radio propagation characteristics between each DUs and the device, but also by the synchronization jitter among the DUs. In this paper, we investigated the impact of synchronization jitters on the achievable gain in CJT when employing wireless two-way interferometry (Wi-Wi) for synchronization among DUs. |
