One of the major challenges in utilizing the millimeter-wave band for 5G sysytem, which enables high-capacity communication, is the occurrence of coverage holes. A promising solution to this issue is the control of reflection angles using metasurfaces, a technology that has been actively researched in recent years. In this study, the authors designed a metasurface reflector for 28 GHz using an electromagnetic field simulator, evaluated the characteristics of the fabricated sample, and conducted demonstration tests in a local 5G environment. By creating a metasurface reflector that reflects signals at a 20° angle, they found that it is possible to eliminate coverage holes by redirecting incident waves to directions different from their original arrival path. |
