Evaluation of Packet Classification Method using Trie with Compressed Paths

(in English) In the field of packet classification, although many classification algorithms have been developed as alternatives to linear search, it still remains major because of the classification methods with their rule format restriction and huge memory consumption. Recently, Hasebe et al. proposed an efficient packet classification algorithm that achieves memory savings and high-speed processing by using a binary trie cooperated with linear search. In this paper, we conduct a detailed performance evaluation of the method and examine whether it can replace the current packet classification framework, which is currently dominated by linear search, without requiring any modifications to it.
