User Mobility Control in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks with Individual Mobility Characteristics
Jihyeok Yang, Tutomu Murase (Nagoya Univ.) IN2025-46
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this paper, a mobility control method that considers the heterogeneous mobility constraints of users in ad hoc networks is proposed. Previous heuristic mobility control approaches using spring model assume that all network users strictly follow the prescribed movement instructions and can relocate to the optimal position without limitation. However, when the movement cost of each node is taken into count, nodes exhibit diverse mobility constraints: some may refuse to move, others may move only partially, and many have an upper bound on the distance they are willing or able to move. Consequently, if one or more nodes do not relocate to their prescribed optimal positions, previous methods—which do not consider such mobility limitations—can deviate significantly from the true optimum and fail to achieve any throughput improvement. To address this issue, we propose a new spring-based model that imposes a maximum movement distance and propose a heuristic mobility control method that determines user positions while explicitly accounting for individual mobility characteristics. To validate its effectiveness, we evaluate the proposed scheme with particular attention to each user’s maximum movement distance. Numerical results show that when the average maximum movement distance is 10 m with a standard deviation of 8 m, the proposed method improves the network throughput by approximately 21%.
