Safety training for employees is mandatory in the industrial sector. Despite this, accidents caused by workers' risk-takings continue to occur. These accidents are often caused by deviations from established safety procedures, known as "ouchaku (it means cutting-corners)," which carry the risk of causing serious accidents. The objective of this study was to predict and detect individual differences in the tendency to cut corners using behavioral indicators and physiological responses. Participants were induced to cut corners by manipulating rewards and cognitive load while their electrocardiograms (ECG) and electrodermal activity (EDA) were measured. The results indicated that the group prone to cutting corners exhibited greater executive attention capability and a tendency toward parasympathetic dominance. These findings suggest that this group is more likely to engage in cutting corners and select behaviors optimized for reward acquisition. These results suggest that it may be possible to predict an individual's tendency to cut corners using behavioral and physiological indicators and to predict cutting-corners behavior using heart rate variability (HRV). |
