We propose a wideband harmonic N‑path mixer with a switchable number of paths to enable folded noise cancellation. A prototype of the N-path harmonic mixer, which can switch the number of paths from 1 to 4, is fabricated using a 45nm SOI-CMOS process. In the case of 1 path, wideband operation is achieved by varying the harmonic order of the mixing LO signal according to the RF frequency. Additionally, when the number of paths is increased to N, folded noise from harmonics other than multiples of N can be canceled, improving the noise figure (NF). As a result of the prototype, for the case of 1 path, we confirmed operation from 1.75 GHz to 43.75 GHz with the world's best relative bandwidth by using the 1st to 12th harmonics of the LO signal for frequency conversion. By switching the number of paths from 1 to 4, we achieved a 5.1 dB reduction in NF, attaining an NF of 26.5 dB as a 12th harmonic mixer. |
