In IEEE 802.11-based wireless LANs, the Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) determines transmission opportunities, and the resulting contention makes it fundamentally difficult to satisfy QoS requirements. Priority-based access control and coordinated channel management have been studied to satisfy QoS requirements, although their effectiveness decreases in environments where heterogeneous BSSs with different capabilities or policies coexist. We previously proposed a scheme that groups BSSs by their attributes and assigns different transmission prohibition periods using periodic NAV notifications. This BSS-group-level access control improves coordination across BSSs. However, it cannot differentiate devices with diverse characteristics within the same group, which limits its effectiveness. To overcome this issue, we propose a device-group-level access control scheme in which devices are classified by their attributes and NAV-based transmission prohibition periods are configured for each group. This enables more deterministic spectrum usage even when multiple BSSs and heterogeneous devices coexist. We evaluate the basic performance of the proposed scheme through numerical analysis. |
