This paper proposes a print-resistant background Region of Interest (ROI) data hiding scheme designed to compensate for extraction errors in AI-based segmentation. The objective of this method is to enhance the robustness against print-and-scan processes while completely preserving the visual quality of the foreground of the image. The proposed scheme first performs occupancy analysis on AI-generated foreground masks, and then, classifies the background regions into "safe regions" and "ambiguous regions" located near the foreground boundaries. The locations of these ambiguous regions are embedded as meta-data within a fixed area at the top of the image. The meta-data enables the system to extract the data embedded in the ambiguous regions even if the mask recognition during the scanning process is inaccurate, which leads to improvement of the extraction accuracy. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated through experiments in print-and-scan senarios. Some problems and the ideas to resolve them are also discussed in the paper. |
