Motivated by the success of Transformers in large language models, the introduction of Transformers into graph-based machine learning has been advancing. Indeed, a variety of architectures referred to as Graph Transformers have been proposed, and it has been reported that Graph Transformers are effective for learning graph representations compared with Graph Neural Networks (GNNs). In light of these trends, the author has begun exploring the potential of Graph Transformers. This paper reports the current status of this investigation. More specifically, we provide an overview of Graph Transformers. In addition, we examine their predictive performance through a simple evaluation. In particular, we focus on a task, graph classification, which predicts the label, i.e., class, of a given graph, and evaluate the prediction accuracy of Graph Transformers. As a result, we demonstrate that Graph Transformers can distinguish between random graphs and graphs with scale-free properties. Finally, we discuss challenges related to Graph Transformers. |
