Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Recently, the number of people stranded in natural disasters and other disasters has increased, and rapid rescue is required. In areas without mobile phone coverage, even if the location of a stranded person is identified using the GPS function on their mobile device, it is not possible to notify the distress searchers. Therefore, we developed a "disaster location identification system" that uses a drone equipped with a mobile radio relay system and flies over the distress area to temporarily create a designated area and acquire GPS information from mobile devices. However, the developed system had some problems, such as the inability to communicate with telecommunications carriers other than SoftBank, and the requirement that drones be tethered to the ground by cable due to Radio Law regulations, meaning that wide-area searches could not be conducted by flying. Noting that Wi-Fi communication does not depend on telecommunications carriers and that radio relay is possible even when flying in the air, we developed a "distress location identification system" that is equipped with a Wi-Fi radio relay system on a drone. Noting that Wi-Fi communication does not depend on telecommunications carriers and that wireless relay is possible even when flying in the air, we developed a "disaster location identification system" that uses a Wi-Fi wireless relay system mounted on a drone and targets Wi-Fi-enabled mobile phones. This paper provides an overview of the proposed system.
