EEG Classification of Kinesthetic and Visual Motor Imagery during Motor Execution

(in English) For practical applications of brain-computer interfaces, it is important to investigate the characteristics of EEG of motor imagery performed during motor execution (ME).Present study investigated the differences in EEG data recorded while 10 participants performed right-hand grasping movements along with either KMI or VMI. Time-frequency analysis revealed a trend of larger event-related desynchronization (ERD) when performing VMI during ME in the parietal, posterior temporal, and occipital regions. Additionally, the topographical maps of alpha-band power showed negative similarity between KMI and VMI, suggesting different spatial features. Single-trial classification using support vector machines (SVM) achieved accuracies exceeding 60% in 40% of participants. These results suggest that KMI and VMI elicit different EEG responses even during ME, making it possible to classify the type of motor imagery.
