Test pieces fabricated using a metal 3D printer were connected to a 50 kHz bolt-clamped Langevin transducer and excited in the longitudinal vibration mode to measure their large-amplitude characteristics. The transient response method was employed to measure the quality factor in the large-amplitude region. The quality factor at a tip vibration velocity of 1 m/s decreased to half the value previously measured at low amplitudes, and thereafter decreased in a form close to a linear function up to 2 m/s. During high-amplitude, long-duration driving, the machined and width laminated specimens could sustain vibration at 1.5 m/s for 12 hours. However, the length laminated specimen developed cracks at the node position within 4 hours. The fatigue stress at this point is estimated to be 50 MPa. |
