A basic study on the analysis of the uncanny valley phenomenon using N170

(in English) The uncanny valley phenomenon occurs when an object becomes similar to a human face, causing discomfort. Its evaluation has mainly relied on subjective methods such as questionnaires, while objective approaches are limited. This study aimed to establish an objective evaluation method using electroencephalography, focusing on the N170 component. Eight participants viewed robot faces with different degrees of human likeness while completing questionnaires and EEG measurements. The results showed a discrepancy between the uncanny valley derived from questionnaire ratings and that inferred from N170 latency, whereas changes in N170 amplitude partially corresponded with the questionnaire results.
