Advances in quantum computing have spurred exploration of quantum algorithm applications in image processing.
To date, extensive work has progressed on developing image representations utilizing quantum properties and image processing algorithms that run on quantum computers.
However, image reconstruction from quantum states strongly depends on the number of samples and image size, with the number of samples becoming particularly enormous in probabilistic quantum image representations.
If the quantum state of an image could be evaluated directly, the sampling of the image itself could be omitted, solving this problem.
This research proposes Quantum PSNR (QPSNR) as a quality assessment metric calculable from quantum measurement results without performing image reconstruction, and demonstrates its application method within the Flexible Representation of Quantum Images (FRQI) framework.
Experimental results confirmed, through simulation, the magnitude of quantitative differences between QPSNR and classical PSNR, as well as convergence performance.
