In the mm-wave band of 5th generation (5G) mobile communication systems, antenna configurations capable of beam steering and MIMO communication are required to compensate for high propagation loss and to provide wide-area coverage. Although large-scale antenna arrays are widely used, the required number of precoders increases circuit complexity and power consumption. This paper focuses on a transmit array antenna composed of a primary radiator and a metasurface-based transmissive plate. Beam steering is performed in the horizontal direction using the primary radiator, while a fixed cosecant-squared radiation pattern is applied in the vertical direction. This configuration enables a reduction in the number of precoders while maintaining effective area coverage. The effectiveness of the proposed antenna is evaluated through simulations and outdoor experiments in a hotspot environment. |
