Study of GPU-based parallel backprojection for 3D mmWave SAR imaging

(in English) We are developing a high-precision, high-speed GPU-based backprojection processing for 3D imaging of
hazardous objects using millimeter-wave radar. This paper demonstrates an implementation of GPU-based parallel backprojection in millimeter-wave radar image reconstruction, along with a performance improvement technique that pipelines preprocessing and main processing. After implementing parallel backprojection in C++ and CUDA, the 3D image reconstruction time was measured using experimental mmWave radar with 4 sensors, 1281 hits, and 12x16 elements. As a result, the server equipped with a 64-coe Xeon and four NVIDIA H100 GPUs was able to reconstruct 2563 pixels in 3695 milliseconds. Furthermore, we found that pipeline parallel execution of CPU preprocessing and GPUs main processing reduced imaging time to 2411 milliseconds.
