This paper presents an energy-efficient wide-bandwidth optical link for AI/ML systems employing an 8‑channel MM VCSEL-based Co-Packaged Optics transceiver. Optical links using 100-m and 310-m OM4 fibers demonstrate 6-dB bandwidth of 26.7 GHz and 19.2 GHz, which are wider than the Nyquist frequencies of 53 Gbaud and 32 Gbaud, respectively. When operating the 150-m OM4 link employing the CPO transceiver with 64-Gb/s PAM4 and 106-Gb/s PAM4 signals, BER characteristics are lower than the targeted FEC-threshold for PCIe 6.0 and IEEE802.3db, respectively. The power efficiency was less than 7.8pJ/bit which is sufficiently lower than the OIF target of 10pJ/bit. |
