Femtosecond laser processing was employed to fabricate refractive-index-modified regions within a fluoride optical fiber. These modified regions functioned as mode couplers, enabling interaction between the guided light and immersion oil applied to the outer surface of the fiber, thereby inducing optical absorption. Differential loss spectra (dB) in the mid-infrared region were measured, from which absorption peaks associated with C–H stretching vibrations were clearly identified. This result demonstrates the feasibility of chemical component discrimination using the proposed method. Notably, the approach does not require any opening of the fiber cladding, while maintaining high mechanical strength and enhanced resistance to devitrification. These advantages confirm the effectiveness and practicality of the proposed technique for mid-infrared fiber-optic sensing. |
