Evaluation of the Effects of Tension Release during Cable Removal on the Remaining Communication Cable

(in English) A cable removal method that allows cutting and removing communication cables without releasing tension was investigated to improve work efficiency. Previous studies confirmed that no optical loss occurs during cutting under single-span straight-line conditions. In this study, a multi-span test facility with two parallel cable lines was constructed, and an optical closure was installed at the pole–cable connection point. One cable line was cut and associated hardware was removed, and the effects on load redistribution, optical power variation, and fiber movement in the remaining cable were evaluated. The results showed that although temporary tension fluctuations occurred, optical loss remained within ±0.1 dB, and no significant fiber displacement or damage was observed. These findings indicate that the proposed method can be safely applied under multi-span conditions while maintaining communication quality and structural integrity.
