Water management in paddy rice cultivation is labor-intensive, and labor-saving support is increasingly required due to aging farmers and labor shortages. However, existing automatic systems often rely on multi-point sensing and continuous communication, leading to high deployment and maintenance costs.
This study proposes a low-cost and practical water management support system based on single-point water level observation using a low-power microcontroller and an LTE Cat-M1 network. The system was deployed in a real agricultural canal for approximately 10 days (960 transmissions), achieving a data transmission success rate of 98.65%.
An EWMA-based anomaly detection method was applied to water level time-series data sampled at 15-minute intervals. As a result, 8 of 11 water level change events were detected, and 5 of 7 true anomalies requiring management actions were correctly identified (precision 0.63, recall 0.71, F1-score 0.67).
These results indicate that combining single-point observation with a lightweight statistical method enables practical water management support in communication-constrained agricultural environments. |
