(in English) In recent years, revisions to the Course of Study have shifted English education in elementary schools from “foreign language activities” to English as a formal subject. As a result, greater emphasis is now placed on developing communication skills, particularly listening and speaking. However, issues such as a shortage of ALTs and disparities in educational resources across regions have become increasingly apparent. Against this backdrop, there is a growing need for an English conversation system that allows children to practice at their own pace while providing personalized learning experiences tailored to their interests and level of engagement. This study aims to identify the limitations of previously developed English conversation systems and to improve evaluation metrics, as well as to design and examine a new AI‑based English conversation system.
