Quantum networks require coordinated control over entanglement generation, storage, purification, and swapping to
satisfy end-to-end fidelity requirements under severe quantum-memory constraints. However, reproducible evaluation of control
policies remains challenging due to the lack of standardized benchmarks and evaluation protocols. This paper presents QN-Gym,
an event-driven benchmark framework for quantum network control featuring a Gym-compatible interface and a unified evaluation
methodology. QN-Gym is designed as a modular task suite in which routing, purification, and memory management are implemented as interchangeable components, enabling systematic comparison across algorithmic choices and control scopes. As the
first released task, we focus on memory-only control under fixed routing and purification to isolate the impact of quantum-memory
selection and replacement on meeting fidelity constraints. The problem is formulated as a constrained Markov decision process
(CMDP) that maximizes throughput, with latency-related penalties, while constraining the rate of fidelity violations. Extensive
simulations across multiple topologies and traffic regimes evaluate throughput, completion delay, violation rate, and memory
utilization, revealing Pareto trade-offs between reliability and performance. |
