In this paper, we present a systematic design of monotone Lipschitz-gradient (MoL-Grad) denoisers empowered by diffusion models. We derive conditions under which the sampling operators of denoising diffusion probabilistic models and another model relying on Tweedie's formula are MoL-Grad denoisers. This property ensures that plugging the denoiser into splitting algorithms leads to minimization of an objective function involving an implicit regularizer. An implementation of the proposed denoiser using the standard U-Net architecture is studied in detail. As our problem formulation is nonconvex due to the ill-conditionedness assumption of the degradation matrix, the half-quadratic splitting algorithm as well as the forward-backward splitting algorithm is employed. Simulations on the STL-10 dataset demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed PnP method both in stability and image restoration performance. |
