Semantic communication has emerged as a promising paradigm to break the Shannon limit by transmitting task-relevant information rather than raw data bits. However, existing approaches often struggle with adaptive task-driven capabilities and performance degradation in low Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) regimes. In this paper, we propose a Region of Interest (ROI)-aware semantic communication system utilizing Knowledge Distillation (KD). We design a teacher-student framework where a lightweight student policy network learns from a large vision-language model to generate accurate, prompt-driven attention maps. These maps guide a Joint Source-Channel Coding (JSCC) encoder to perform adaptive power allocation, concentrating energy on semantically important regions. Experimental results on the RefCOCO dataset demonstrate that our method significantly outperforms standard JSCC and Prompt Semantic Communication (PSC) in low-SNR conditions (below 0~dB) while maintaining comparable performance in high-SNR regimes and reducing bandwidth consumption by approximately 25%. Furthermore, the low computational complexity of the proposed student network facilitates efficient deployment on resource-constrained edge devices. |
