Speaker verification is a type of biometric authentication that determines whether an input utterance is spoken by a pre-registered speaker. One of the major threats to speaker verification systems is adversarial attacks, which manipulate the system output by adding small perturbations to the input audio. Although many studies have investigated adversarial attack methods and corresponding defense techniques, previous work has typically generated perturbations using speech audio and has paid little attention to the impact of differences in input audio characteristics.
In this study, we examine adversarial attacks using non-speech audio as the input audio to which perturbations are added, and evaluate their attack performance. In addition, we analyze the effectiveness of defense methods based on audio preprocessing for different types of adversarial audio. Experimental results show that the success rate of adversarial attacks depends on both the input audio characteristics and the speaker verification model. Furthermore, the degree of reduction in attack success rate achieved by applying defense methods varies significantly depending on the input audio type. |
